Construction is now underway on upgrades at the historic Bendigo Bowls and Croquet Clubs, backed by the Victorian Government.
Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards MP today joined representatives from the Bendigo Bowls Club, Bendigo Croquet Club and the City of Greater Bendigo to celebrate the start of construction, funded through the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program.
“Staying active is an important aspect of a healthy life, no matter what age you are. Facilities like the Bendigo Bowls and Croquet Clubs provide valuable opportunities for people of all ages to connect, move their bodies and enjoy the outdoors.” Said Ms Edwards
“I’m proud the Allan Labor Government is backing the Bendigo Bowls and Croquet Club. Can’t wait to roll the first bowl!"
The redevelopment includes a refurbishment of four bowling greens, including two with synthetic surfaces, two competition size croquet lawns and accessibility improvements, alongside upgrades to the venue’s iconic bowls clubhouse.
A new carpark with entry on Barnard Street and upgraded lighting to two bowling greens complete the project.
The upgraded clubhouse will provide a multi-purpose, inclusive space that is accessible, providing opportunities for more lawn bowls and croquet events, and other activities for the wider community.
Bendigo-based Searle Bros is the head contractor leading the redevelopment, supporting 45
local jobs and engaging 20 businesses. With over 90 years in the construction industry, Searle Bros have extensive experience delivering projects including the Bendigo Tramways Expansion and Larni Garingilang at the Bendigo Botanic Gardens.
The venue has been home of the Bendigo Bowls Club for over 150 years. Upgrades are expected
to be completed in late 2026.
These upgrades are being delivered by the City of Greater Bendigo in partnership with the Victorian Government. It is one of 16 projects being delivered through the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, including three in the Bendigo region.
The other Bendigo projects include major upgrades at Bendigo Stadium and Bendigo Showgrounds. All three projects are helping our communities to be even better places to live, work, stay and play.
