It’s game on for the Golden City Football Club and Bendigo Cricket Club thanks to the completion of their new community and sport pavilion at North Bendigo Recreation Reserve.

Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards joined representatives from Greater Bendigo City Council and the clubs to officially open the new pavilion, made possible by a $1 million investment from the Victorian Government’s Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.

North Bendigo Recreation Reserve is a major sport and recreation hub and a hive of activity all year round, supporting footballers, cricketers and swordcraft participants, from juniors to seniors.

The new pavilion features four change rooms, accessible public toilets, match officials’ room, meeting room, first aid and storage space, and a multipurpose room complete with canteen and kitchen facilities.

The exterior of the building includes an undercover spectator viewing area with adjacent car parking, landscaping and connecting paths.

Together the new building provides a great new base for home clubs and the community to come together, play and celebrate local wins.

The Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund is part of more than $2.4 billion invested by the Victorian Government in community sports infrastructure since 2014.

The Victorian Budget 2026/27 is also providing more than $24 million to support the development of high-quality, accessible community sports infrastructure across the state.

Maree Edwards MP acknowledged the Greater Bendigo City Council for its $1,786,000 contribution and commitment to delivering the project, the Federal Government for its $1 million contribution, and the Bendigo City Cricket Club and Golden City Football Club for contributing $37,500 each.

“Grassroots sport in the City of Bendigo is booming, the new pavilion will ensure no one misses out on the opportunity to join in the fun at this popular reserve.”

“Sport and active recreation facilities like pavilions are a game changer for local sport and communities, they bring people together, help build lasting connections and provide a real boost to local economies.”
