Local pet owners will benefit from expanded and upgraded services delivered by not-for-profit animal care organisations thanks to the Allan Labor Government.
Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards MP visited Mount Alexander Animal Welfare to celebrate $70,000 in funding as part of Round 12 of the Allan Labor Government’s Animal Welfare Fund Grants Program.
The funding will be used to replace an existing storage unit and washroom with a three-room portable building with provision for emergency and crisis accommodation for companion animals.
The project will allow the organisation to expand its relief services during emergencies and address the increased need for welfare accommodation.
Regional Community Vet Clinic also received $20,000 under this funding round to provide free veterinary treatment and medications for pets owned by disadvantaged and vulnerable members of the community.
“We are so pleased to be able to provide this much-needed support to hardworking animal care organisations like Mount Alexander Animal Welfare and Regional Community Vet Clinic, who are caring for some our most vulnerable members of society," Ms Edwards said.
“I congratulate volunteers from Mount Alexander Animal Welfare and Regional Community Vet Clinic for the power of work undertaken to apply for this funding, and their support of our local community.”
Since 2014, the Government has awarded $14.76 million to animal care organisations through the Animal Welfare Fund Grants program, which aims to improve companion animal welfare, encourage responsible pet ownership, and provide better animal welfare outcomes.
