Bendigo Senior Secondary College students are benefiting from new and upgraded facilities following the completion of upgrade and modernisation works thanks to the Allan Labor Government.

Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards MP recently visited the school to officially open the refurbished classrooms and heritage conservation works to one classroom block.

The works also delivered an upgraded student services area and refurbished the trade training centre and new courtyard.

The upgrade was delivered through an investment of $10 million from the Labor Government.

“Thank you to the students, staff and broader school community for their support whilst works took place. And a huge shoutout to Y2 Architecture and Raysett Constructions Pty Ltd for their involvement in the project.” Said Ms Edwards.

“These refurbished facilities are further upgrades on the works completed in 2018 and are wonderful examples of our commitment to giving Victorian children the first-rate education they deserve.”

The historic G block, where works occurred, was built in two stages. The first was the construction of the original school building on this site in 1870, followed by the 1913 building which extended and enclosed the area to create a quadrangle at its centre.

Given the historical significance of the building, work needed to be carried out with the support of Heritage Victoria.

The building upgrade has allowed the fundamental heritage values of the building to be retained alongside modernised classrooms, staff areas, toilet facilities, locker bays and casual student study spaces.

With over 1700 students, Bendigo Senior Secondary College is the largest provider of the Victorian Certificate of Education, VCE Vocational Major and Vocational Education and Training in Schools in the state.

The Labor Government has invested $16.9 billion over the past decade to build new schools and undertake more than 2,200 school upgrades across Victoria.

This substantial investment has not only improved educational facilities across the state, it has also supported more than 26,000 jobs in construction and associated industries.
