Member for Bendigo West, Maree Edwards today announced that Maldon Primary School will receive $230,000 of additional maintenance funding, thanks to an unprecedented investment by the Andrews Labor Government.
The funding will be used to upgrade the school’s soccer and football oval.
Students at the Maldon Primary School earlier this year petitioned Ms Edwards requesting financial assistance for turf on the school’s soccer pitch and football oval.
The petition contained 318 signatures of students, parents and community members.
Ms Edwards visited the school in June to inspect the oval and talk with student leaders and staff about what the school required, and discussed the requirements with the Minister for Education, The Hon. James Merlino.
This is part of a state-wide package of $515 million, which is the single largest boost to school maintenance ever undertaken.
This increased investment will enable principals to get on with the job of leading Victoria’s schools, by providing more funds to maintain the state’s 36,000 school buildings, while supporting schools to cater to the 115,000 additional students who are expected to enter the education system over the next five years.
The Labor Government has invested $6.1 billion to deliver new primary and secondary schools, upgrade more than 1,400 existing ones and create over 7,500 construction jobs across the state.
The Labor Government is building the Education State so that every student can access a great local school and get a great education.
“I congratulate the Maldon Primary School students on their initiative to petition for a new oval and for their passion to make this happen”
“It’s a credit to the Principal, staff and parents that these students have been able to convince myself and the Minister that a new oval was so vitally important for their safety and well-being”
“We know students get the most out of their education when they have safe, modern classrooms to learn in, and first-rate facilities the school community can feel proud of.”
“This funding will mean that Maldon Primary School students have the very best outdoor facilities into the future”.
