The Andrews Labor Government is investing in a big month of racing in Bendigo in October as part of an $83,000 joint funding package for two feature race events.
The Labor Government is providing almost $28,000 from the Victorian Racing Industry Fund Raceday Attraction Program for the Beach Party Raceday on Saturday 20 October and the Bendigo Cup on Wednesday 31 October.
Bendigo’s Beach Party Raceday has proved a popular event in recent years, and this year’s event will feature Will Sparks and other DJs.
Racegoers will be encouraged to get into the spirit by dressing in beach-themed outfits, such as Hawaiian shirts, sundresses, board shorts, sombreros and thongs.
Bendigo Cup Day is the club’s major meeting of the year and is a public holiday for Bendigo in lieu of the Melbourne Cup holiday.
Australian band Mental as Anything will entertain racegoers after the last race, while model and media personality Bree Laughlin will MC and host the Fashions on the Field competition.
Complimentary shuttle buses will operate on both race days between the Bendigo town centre and the racecourse.
Both events form part of Country Racing Victoria’s 2018 Spring Campaign that covers 52 feature race meetings and 27 country cup meetings across regional Victoria between 22 September and 25 November. A special two-for-one general admission deal is available for all Spring Campaign events.
The Bendigo Jockey Club is contributing $44,000 to the two feature race days, while Country Racing Victoria is providing $11,500.
Since 2014, the Labor Government has provided over $1.4 million to support eight racing events and 18 infrastructure projects at Bendigo Racecourse.
The racing industry in the Loddon region generates more than $166 million for the Victorian economy annually and helps sustain more than 1640 full-time equivalent jobs locally.
