Bendigo is now home to the best and biggest indoor stadium in regional Australia thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan and Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards visited the new and expanded Bendigo Stadium today, for a preview before the gala opening tomorrow night.

The Bendigo Stadium was made possible through a $5 million grant from the Labor Government.

The revamped stadium features three international sized courts that convert into a 4,000-seat concert stadium and 12 outdoor netball courts.

The stadium will now be able to host more major events, touring acts and national and international sports competitions.

The main arena features a giant state-of-the-art jumbotron over the centre of the court, giving all fans highlights of the play no matter where they are sitting.

Tonight’s first major event at the new stadium sees the Bendigo Braves women’s and men’s teams take on the Sabres – a fitting challenge with the men’s team fighting to stay in the eight, and the women’s team trying to make it nine wins in a row.

The project is funded through the Labor Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund, which is transforming tired and outdated facilities at suburban and regional grounds to get more Victorians active.

The Labor Government recently delivered the biggest investment in community and women’s sport in Victoria’s history.

The Victorian Budget 2018/19 invests $241.6 million to upgrade facilities at local grounds and clubs, with more $100 million to improve facilities and access for women – including a $15 million boost for the Female Friendly Facilities Fund.

This comes on top of a further $60 million for community sporting grants and $5 million for Community Sports Infrastructure Loans, which will unlock up to $100 million to upgrade local facilities.
