Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan and Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards, today announced a $31,000 funding boost for Bendigo TAFE to train the next generation of plumbers in Bendigo.
A combination of residential growth and the growing construction sector means that building activity in the region increases demand for plumbers.
In partnership with local industry, the funding boost will provide pre-apprenticeship training (Certificate II in Plumbing) for an extra nine students at Bendigo TAFE to commence in June 2018.
The 14-week pre-apprenticeship program is a pathway to an apprenticeship in plumbing and aims to get young people work-ready by equipping them with basic skills and a knowledge of the sector, and features work placement.
The project is being funded under the Regional and Specialist Training Fund, part of the Andrews Labor Government’s Skills First initiative, which is delivering training to respond to industry-led demand for specific skills in regions and specialist areas.
Through Skills First, the Victorian Government is investing to rebuild the state’s TAFE network to ensure all Victorians have access to industry-standard training that gives them the skills they need to secure rewarding, well-paid jobs.
Since coming to office, the Andrews Labor Government has invested an additional $750 million in TAFE infrastructure, equipment and programs.
