GOLDEN MILE SET TO GET BENDIGO RACING

The Bendigo Jockey Club will again host a jewel in the Victorian Autumn Racing Carnival’s crown, the Golden Mile Raceday, thanks to a joint funding package worth more than $69,500.

The Andrews Labor Government is providing $14,500 from its Victorian Racing Industry Fund Raceday Attraction Program to support the raceday which is scheduled for Saturday 30 March 2019.

The Bendigo Jockey Club’s standalone Saturday meeting, the Golden Mile Raceday is an important date on the Victorian racing calendar with prizemoney totalling over $1 million. The meeting includes four feature races: the VOBIS Gold Rush, Bendigo Guineas, the Gold Bracelet and the Golden Mile.

To build on the success of past years, the Bendigo Jockey Club will have a keen focus on attracting families to the event, with plenty of children’s activities including laser tag, child safe archery and a jumping castle.

Racegoers will have no trouble making their way to the track on raceday, with complimentary shuttle buses running between Bendigo train station and the racecourse.

The Bendigo Jockey Club is providing more than $22,000 towards the event, while Country Racing Victoria will provide $33,000.

Since 2014, the Labor government has provided more than $1.5 million to support nine thoroughbred events and 18 infrastructure projects for the Bendigo Jockey Club.

The racing industry in the Bendigo region generates more than $157.7 million for the Victorian economy annually and helps sustain almost 1,300 full time equivalent jobs in the region.
