VETERANS GRANTS FOR LEGACY CLUB

Maree Edwards MP, Member for Bendigo West, together with Jacinta Allan MP, Member for Bendigo East, announced a $7,200 grant for The Legacy Club of Bendigo Inc, as part of the ANZAC Day Proceeds Fund Grants 2018-19.

The grant will assist in funding utility and heating costs of War Widows from the Bendigo Legacy Club.

Legacy Bendigo began in 1926 and is dedicated to supporting, advocating and enhancing the lives of war widows and their families.

The Andrews Labor Government has announced 25 grants totalling $398,750 have been approved through the ANZAC Day Proceeds Fund this year.

The ANZAC Day Proceeds Fund provides practical support to the veteran community through the provision of funding for a range of welfare related activities.

Funding is provided to assist organisations whose principal objective is to provide welfare to the ex-service community.

The funding for the ANZAC Day Proceeds Fund is derived from the proceeds of sporting events held in Victoria on ANZAC Day.

Ms Allan said:

“The ANZAC Day Proceeds Fund has provided so much vital support for Victorian veterans and I am proud that tradition continues”

“The veterans living in the Bendigo region rely on the hard work of ex-service organisations and community groups”

Ms Edwards said:

“We not only honour the sacrifices of those who have died serving our country – but also the sacrifice, hardships and strength of our war widows and their families.”

“This grant from The ANZAC Day Proceeds Fund will help The Legacy Club of Bendigo Inc. make the lives of our veterans widows a little bit easier, which is something they have well and truly earnt”.

“This is a small gesture compared to the sacrifices our veterans made for us, but we must do whatever we can to ensure our veterans’ families are supported to live a dignified life”.
