The Victorian Government has awarded a $50,000 grant to Loddon Shire Council to deliver a new food festival that will showcase the region’s fresh produce, boost visitation to the area and promote the liveability of the region.

State Members for Bendigo, Jacinta Allan and Maree Edwards today announced the funding from the Stronger Regional Communities Plan, which supports community-led initiatives that build community capabilities or improve the liveability of regional and rural towns.

The Loddon Valley Food and Wine Expo will provide the opportunity for visitors and locals to meet the producers and experience the best produce and products that the Loddon region has to offer.

The event will be held on Saturday, 16 March 2019 and is being timed to coincide with the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival.

The event will comprise a seated lunch at the Newbridge Recreation Pavilion prepared and cooked by a celebrity chef, and an expo showcasing Loddon Valley producers and products will take place in the grounds outside.

The luncheon event will provide a “paddock to plate” and “meet the maker” experience that highlights where visitors can go to experience the produce on farm with the producer and see where the produce is grown.

In addition to stalls from local producers and wine makers, community groups and local service providers will also display at the event, further demonstrating the benefits of living in this regional community.

The Stronger Regional Communities Plan aims to support rural and regional towns to attract families and young people to live and work by investing in community-led projects that make regional Victoria a better place to live and work.

Community groups, not for profit organisations, individual businesses, and industry alliances are all eligible to apply for funding for projects that will create stronger communities.
