WORKS TO BEGIN ON CASTLEMAINE STATION CAR PARK UPGRADE

Member for Bendigo West, Maree Edwards announced today that works for the creation of 150 extra parking spaces at the Castlemaine Station car park will commence at the end of July.

Ms Edwards welcomed the start of works under the Station Car Park Upgrades Program, being delivered by VicTrack and its contractor ACE Contractor Group on behalf of the Victorian Government.

Following extensive community feedback on the design, Ms Edwards said the car park would be moved closer to the Station, adjacent to the Goods Shed, with entrance to the car park at the corner of Kennedy Street and Doveton Street.

The car park spaces will increase parking spaces and improve accessibility and safety at the Castlemaine Station car park with new lighting, line markings, CCTV and signage to be delivered.

Works are expected to be complete by December 2017.

The Station Car Park Upgrades Program will deliver more than 2,100 extra commuter parking spaces at 17 regional and metropolitan train stations by the end of 2017.

Sites were chosen following an extensive Public Transport Victoria audit of more than 200 suburban and regional railway stations, to determine current capacity and demand, available transport land and population growth area data.

The Station Car Park Upgrades Program is supported by the Government’s Trains, Trams, Jobs 2015-2025 – Victorian Rolling Stock Strategy and was kick-started by the Government’s $1.3 billion investment in regional rail.
