TURNBULL TARGETS LOCAL SCHOOLS IN BILLION DOLLAR CUT

The Andrews Labor Government released figures today that show how much funding each government school would miss out on unless the Turnbull Liberal Government commits to funding the final two years of the Gonski Agreement.

Malcolm Turnbull is short-changing Bendigo students over $29 million over 2018 and 2019, impacting students across our region.

The Coalition’s broken promise on Gonski funding means that schools across Bendigo will lose on average $350,000-$425,000 every year from 2019, with some schools losing nearly $2 million per year.

If elected, a Federal Labor Government will return every single dollar of these funding cuts to our schools.

Victorian schools will experience a $1.1 billion shortfall over 2018 and 2019. This money could pay for 8,000 teachers or more than 10,000 allied health staff like psychologists, speech pathologists, welfare workers and physiotherapists.

The Andrews Labor Government fixed the $850 million black hole left by the previous Victorian Liberal Government and has met its obligations under the Gonski Agreement, with full allocations for the 2015, 2016 and 2017 school years.
