The Kangaroo Flat public want the Council’s planned aquatic centre to go ahead, given that the Council has always told the community to their face it is their number one priority, Member for Bendigo West, Maree Edwards, said today.

“The State Government has a $15 million grant if the pool goes ahead.  This grant will be lost to Bendigo if the Council dumps the plan.”

“That $15 million could go to other Councils who have had long terms applications for projects before Government.  Other Councils will be jumping for joy at our expense.  We don’t want this.”

“Why would the Council want to turn down $15 million, when they asked for it for the pool in the first place?  It makes no sense”, Ms Edwards said.

Ms Edwards said the Council had a reputation to maintain.

“If the Council, after going to a lot of work and a lot of dealings with the State Government, suddenly said they didn’t want the $15 million grant, then how can Government Departments take them seriously in the future?”

Ms. Edwards said the Council told the State Government it would seek at least $5 million funds from the Federal Government when they got the $15 million State grant in May, 2014, but they haven’t even applied.

“The Council are mucking Kangaroo Flat and Bendigo people about with this project, and they aren’t happy”.
