COST STILL UNKNOWN OF FORMER LIBERAL GOVERNMENT HARCOURT WATER BUNGLE

The total cost to Coliban Water of the former State Government's botched Harcourt Water Modernisation project is still unknown, Bendigo West MP, Maree Edwards said today.

"Before the election in November, 2014 the project ceased.   The contractor's machinery was left idle and local sub-contractors were left unpaid and put off work.  The work is only part done and still has to be finished."

“There were issues months before the election, but the former Government failed to act on the project at the time, apparently to hide details from the public in the lead up to an election.”

Ms Edwards said the Liberal-National party’s inaction to show any leadership could cost local water customers more in their bills. Coliban Water posted a $5 million loss last financial year, despite good inflows and no water restrictions.

“Because of the Coalition’s petrified inaction, Coliban Water will need to pick up the pieces”.

“I've asked to meet with Coliban Water, a meeting which will occur later this week, so I can be briefed on exactly what impact this will have".
