Member for Bendigo West, Maree Edwards today requested FOI documents from the National Party Minister for Higher Education and Skills Peter Hall about any potential mergers between Bendigo TAFE, LaTrobe University, Sunraysia TAFE and/or any other /TAFE institution.

Ms Edwards said that there was growing uncertainty within the Bendigo community about the future of the Bendigo TAFE.

“The National Party Minister Peter Hall and the National Party government representative in Bendigo Damian Drum who were responsible for the destructive cuts to our TAFE need to come clean on what the future holds for Bendigo TAFE, for the McCrae Street campus and about what discussions have or are happening about potential mergers”.

“It is disrespectful to the Bendigo community to not keep them informed of what lies ahead for our TAFE”.

“The massive cuts imposed by the Government which led to job losses, course cuts and massive fee hikes have put the Bendigo TAFE in a very precarious position with the likely sale of assets including the historic McCrae Street School of Mines building”.

“It’s time the National Party Minister and the National Party Member for Northern Victoria Damian Drum came clean and informed the Bendigo community of their plans for Bendigo TAFE’s future”.
