TRANSPARENCY REQUESTED ON ALEXANDER BAYNE CENTRE

Member for Bendigo West, Maree Edwards said today that she had today lodged a Freedom of Information (FOI) request to Bendigo Health in relation to the Alexander Bayne Centre and patient safety and security.

“This FOI is in response to correspondence I received from the Minister for Mental Health Mary Woodridge regarding management of previous incidents at the Alexander Bayne Centre and actions undertaken by the service to ensure the safety of both patients and staff at the centre”, Ms Edwards said.

The Minister for Mental Health referred in her correspondence to “… advice she had received from the Chief Psychiatrist that he has engaged with Bendigo Health and that the health service has provided him with detailed information about their management of the incidents, and the actions undertaken by the service to ensure the safety of both patients and staff.”

“Yesterday’s further incident at the Alexander Bayne Centre highlights the need for greater transparency and accountability from the Minister and Bendigo Health by releasing this detailed information to the community, including the management plans, risk assessment and future actions”.

“It is imperative that mental health patients, their families and the community have confidence that the Centre is proactive in addressing safety and risk issues by releasing the information requested through my FOI”.
