Member for Bendigo West, Maree Edwards today demanded the Liberal National government get on with building the Labor funded new police station in Castlemaine.

“This major project was first announced by the Labor government in 2009. Here we are in 2013 and there has not been a single sod turned on the new building”.

“The project was allocated $12 million by the former Labor government”.

“The final design was approved by VCAT in March 2012, with great excitement about the new building timelines being announced within a month”.

“Well it is now 13 months later and time for the Liberal National government to get their act together and get on with building this new police station”.

“Castlemaine has waited long enough.”

“This is further evidence of the Liberal National government’s complete incompetence when it comes to major infrastructure projects. We’ve seen it with their absolute bungling of the tender process for the new Bendigo hospital which is now months behind being started.”

“If there are reasons for a delay in this project then the community should be informed.”

“If there are no justifiable reasons for the delay, then a start and completion date should be forthcoming as soon as possible.”

“There is little for this current Liberal National government to hang their hat on in regional Victoria when it comes to an infrastructure program or infrastructure pipeline for the future, and while this project was a funding commitment by the former Labor Government it is this current government who have failed to get the project moving”.
