BAND AID FOR TAFE TOO LITTLE TOO LATE

The announcement by a nervous Napthine government today reveals that they got it wrong with their massive $290 million cuts to the TAFE sector last year, Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards said today.

"The restoration of less than 20 % of the millions cut from TAFE is too little too late".

"This announcement has come too late to save the jobs of thousands of TAFE teachers across Victoria and those who lost their jobs in Bendigo".

"Nor does it help the students who are paying twice or three times as much for their courses this year".

"With courses already cut from Bendigo TAFE this announcement of a paltry $50 million a year will not reverse that decision".

"Labor has committed to fully fund TAFE's community sector obligations".

"The crumbs being thrown to TAFE from the Liberal National Government table pales in comparison".

"Bendigo TAFE would have been much worse off without transitional funding last year - evidence that the Minister got it wrong in the first instance. Other campuses in Victoria have fared much worse and will be closing this year".

"I don't think regional Victorians will easily forget that this Liberal National Government launched a full scale assault on regional TAFE's and this funding announcement is a further insult".

"There may be a new Premier but it is the same Government".
