EDWARDS DEMANDS MINISTER ANNOUNCE START DATE FOR NEW KANGAROO FLAT CFA STATION

Member for Bendigo West, Maree Edwards today demanded that the State Minister for Emergency Services and Leader of the National Party, Peter Ryan release the timeline and start date for construction of the new Kangaroo Flat CFA station.

Ms Edwards said that construction of the new Kangaroo Flat CFA station  was committed to by the CFA  in 2010, but has been delayed and the timeline for construction is now unknown as a direct result of the Liberal National Government’s decision to slash $66 million from the CFA and MFB budgets.

“There should be no obstacles to the construction of the new station as the land has been acquired to build the new station, there was a commitment from the CFA to the new station, and it was at the top of their priority list. However, there is a deafening silence when questions are raised around the timeline of when and if the new station will be built”.

“It would seem that as a direct result of the Liberal National Government cutting funding from the CFA and MFB budgets the new station at Kangaroo Flat has been relegated down the list of priorities”.

“The safety of the residents of Kangaroo Flat and the broader region should not be compromised because the National Party Minister has failed to support our CFA brigades and instead has slashed their funding”.

“The Kangaroo Flat CFA Brigade volunteers do an outstanding job for their community and they should not be disadvantaged because the Liberal National government has cut their funding”.

“If the National Party Member for Northern Victoria, Damian Drum was doing his job, he would be out there demanding that the new Kangaroo Flat CFA station be moved back to the top of the priority list and that funding to our volunteer CFA brigades was reinstated”.

“As we near the anniversary of Black Saturday, I’m sure it will be on people’s minds that the new station at Kangaroo Flat has been delayed and that the safety of the people of Kangaroo Flat and the region is not a priority for this Government”.

“I call on the Minister to honour the commitment made to the Kangaroo Flat CFA Brigade and the community and announce the start date for commencement of work on the new Kangaroo flat CFA station”.
