Member for Bendigo West, Maree Edwards said today that a petition launched on CFA Sunday against the Baillieu Ryan Government $41 million to the CFA budget has had an overwhelming response.

Ms Edwards said the petition was organised after many people raised concerns about the impact of the cuts to the CFA on volunteer brigades and the CFA station building program.

“The petition calls on Mr Ryan and Mr Baillieu to abandon its finding cut of $41 million to the CFA and the $25 million from the MFB and guarantee no further cuts will be made”.

“These cuts reduce the capacity of the CFA and MFB to fight structure fires and wild fires and to respond to road accident rescues”.

“Firefighters both career and volunteers will be forced to rely on second hand equipment and personal protective clothing, with less access to training, ration packs, even drinking water, fuel and electricity”.

“This is on top of delays to the CFA station upgrade program – which has left the building of the new Kangaroo Flat CFA station in limbo”.

“It is irresponsible of the Liberal National government to make these cuts to our emergency services, leaving people and communities vulnerable as we head into the bushfire season”

Ms Edwards said the petition would continue for some time yet and people could access the petition at her office in Panton Street or on Maree Edwards MP facebook page.
