Member for Bendigo West, Maree Edwards said today that alarming reports of a takeover of Bendigo TAFE by Ballarat University could end a proud tradition of TAFE provision in Bendigo and the region.

“The Liberal National government’s massive cuts to the TAFE sector have forced regional TAFE campuses into a corner and may mean the end of a great and proud tradition of TAFE provision in the Bendigo region”.

“Bendigo TAFE has long been the centre of skills training and education for thousands of students in Bendigo and the region. But with its back to the wall because of the Liberal National government’s harsh and ill thought out budget cuts its future as a Bendigo institution may be at risk”.

“It is time the Baillieu Ryan Government realised that their decimation of our public TAFE system is vastly unpopular and reversed their decision to slash $290 million from the sector”.

“Bendigo TAFE should stay as Bendigo TAFE”.

“I urge people to sign the petition to save Bendigo TAFE and send a strong and loud message to Mr Baillieu and Mr Ryan that Bendigo does not want our TAFE taken over by Ballarat University and wants full funding restored”.
