FEDERAL NATIONAL OPPOSITION MP’S SHOULD TELL STATE MATES TO COUGH UP FOR RAVENSWOOD UPGRADE

FEDERAL NATIONAL OPPOSITION MP’S SHOULD TELL STATE MATES TO COUGH UP FOR RAVENSWOOD UPGRADE

Member for Bendigo West, Maree Edwards today labelled the visit by Federal Opposition National MP’s to Ravenswood as nothing more than a political stunt as no Federal funds can be allocated to the works at Ravenswood until the State Liberal National government do the necessary planning works.

“It is disingenuous for these Opposition National Federal Members not to acknowledge that the State Liberal National Government and the Roads Minister Terry Mulder have failed to fund any planning for the Ravenswood Interchange”.

“Surely they understand the process for these types of road improvements? There can be no Federal funding until the State Government make the Ravenswood Interchange a priority, fund the planning works and put in a submission to the Federal Government for Commonwealth funding”.

“The Roads Minister in Victoria has so far failed on all three counts”.

“The State Government has been very misleading on this project, first claiming that they had submitted for Federal funding, - which they have not done - and secondly by stalling on a funding commitment to planning by making outrageous and incorrect claims that the former Labor Government had done so”.

“State Labor made an election promise of $7M for planning at Ravenswood prior to the 2010 State election. This was not matched by the Liberal National Coalition”.

“If these non-local Opposition National Party Federal blow-ins really wanted to see improvements to the Calder at Ravenswood then they should join me in pushing for their mates in the Liberal National State government to fund the planning, not turning the Calder into yet another political football”.
