Liberal National State Government Slash Women’s Health Funding – Shameful Act

The Liberal National government’s decision to slash funding for Women’s Health is a disgrace and will mean the loss of at least one staff member at Loddon Mallee Women’s Health (LMWH), Member for Bendigo West, Maree Edwards said in Parliament today.

“This is an appalling burden on Loddon Mallee Women’s Health and comes on the back of horrendous crime statistics which show that family violence in the 3555 and 3550 postcode areas has risen a staggering 57% in the last year”.

LMWH provides a crucial service of advice, information and advocacy to approximately 145,000 women and their families in an area ranging from Mildura in the north down to Macedon in the south.

“Unfortunately, a big part of LMWH workload is around family violence and any loss of resources will impact severely on their ability to assist some of the most vulnerable in our community”. Ms Edwards said.

“This Government should hang their heads in shame. Instead of forging partnerships with Women’s Health services and increasing the available resources, this Government slashes their funding and walks away from any commitment or investment in services that support women and children.”

“The Baillieu Ryan Government has no vision that will reduce the inequities and poor health outcomes faced by Victorian women. And no vision to tackle family violence”
